THREE WAYS TO RAISE MONEY FOR YOUR FILM
Money is for most filmmakers the greatest barrier to making a movie. Money to make the vision of your film a reality. You need money to hire actors, to hire a crew, money to feed them. Money to rent equipment, permits, if you’re doing it like that…and money for so much more.
So how do you go about getting all that money? You need to know because you don’t have it, yet. On this post we’re going to share with you 3 Ways To Raise Money For Your Film.

1) PUT UP THE MONEY YOURSELF
It’s the only sure way that you’re going to get the money to make your film, by investing your own money. Other than putting up your own money every other method is a possibility and not a certainty.
Think about it, if you had all the money in the world then no one could keep you from making your film. With that said, then the only thing that’s keeping you from making your film is money. But it doesn’t have to. If you don’t have the money, yet, the next best thing is to:
2) EQUTIY BASED FINANCING
Ultimately equity based financing is getting money from individual people/investors to make your film. These people can be anyone willing to loan you money to make your film. From dentists, lawyers, to millionaires or billionaires. It’s how money for some of your favorite independent films were made. Some examples are the Coen Brother’s film Blood Simple and Robert Rodriguez’s El Mariachi, among countless other films.
With this method the money to make your film can be raised from one single individual to small amounts pooled together by various individuals.
Be ready with a script and a great business plan. Attention, attention! You’ll need to speak the business language. These people will want to know the return on their investment and when to expect that return. They don’t want to lose money. They want to make money. Very different from you who just wants to make a film, right?
3) CROWDFUNDING & SOCIAL MEDIA
Crowdfunding is a way that many filmmakers are raising money today to make their films. With crowdfunding it’s important that you know upfront what are the costs. For every dollar your raise a percentage will be kept by the crowdfunding platform and their may even be fixed costs involved. Do your homework.
The same if true for crowdfunding on social media platforms like Facebook.
BONUS
GET CREATIVE
There’s other ways to raise money that only take some creativity. For example, why not make posts on your social media accounts that you’re raising money for your film, without crowdfunding? You can then do something as simple as let them know your Paypal email where they can donate. Fees still apply, but at a lower cost…or at zero if you’re paying a friend and transferring from a bank account or Paypal balance.
How else could you raise the money? Do you have content video or picture content that you can monetize on Youtube, Pond5, Getty Images, etc? Think and get creative.
